"Networking with Smart-Net is simple,

flexible and intelligent."

Smart-Net networking capabilities are built into every Smart Works product and provide considerable advantages over typical networking technologies.  Smart-Watt (SW) or Smart-Rack (SR) units can be linked together in just about any wiring topology with a simple two-conductor network.  The most common approach is to simply daisy-chain units together.  Each component has a unique ID that identifies it on the network.  You can add a new device to your Smart-Net network by simply plugging it into an available network connection of a device already on the network.  The host software will recognize the new device automatically.

In comparison devices that require a static IP address for each device require considerable effort and planning when deploying.  Not only do you need to pull an additional network drop from your switch or hub to physically attach each device to your network, but you also have to make sure it is programmed with an un-used IP address and subnet mask that will allow it to communicate on your network.

If you need to communicate with devices on your Smart-Net from across your local area network or to a remote Smart-Net site across the Internet we provide the Smart-Net Gateway.  The Smart-Net Gateway provides connectivity to your Smart-Net network from TCP/IP networks via an Ethernet connection and static IP address.  This enables you to manage and communicate with an entire Smart-Net network from a single static IP address.

In addition to flexible networking of your Smart-Watt and Smart-Rack units you also enjoy the same flexibility with sensors attached to your Smart-Rack.  This means you can daisy-chain any number of sensors together and attach them to a single accessory jack on a Smart-Rack.   Regardless of whether you want 3, 10, or 50 sensors attached to a single Smart-Rack you are able to do so.

Smart-Watt and Smart-Rack provide you with tools to better manage your computing environments and Smart-Net makes sure they are easy to deploy.

By adding a Smart-Net Gateway you can access an entire network of Smart Works devices through a single IP address.  You can then manage your Smart-Net network across your local area network or across the Internet.
